Growing up. My Mum grew up in a big Irish family show band and has been a musician all her life, so I grew up going to gigs with her and always being around music. It showed me the reality of being a working musician, and I’m really thankful for that.
Inspirations. I love singer/songwriters like Ed Sheeran, Passenger and Missy Higgins and recently have really gotten into an American singer/songwriter named Brandi Carlile. I grew up listening to a lot of country music so elements of that are definitely seen in my songwriting. Seeing Ed Sheeran perform in 2012 at Festival Hall was probably the best show I’ve ever seen and that really inspired me to work harder at my craft. The way he could command a room just being one man was incredible to me.
Your Music. I’ve released three CDs now – an album Unprotected Grounds in 2012, an EP My Own Happy Ending in 2014, and earlier this year I released Chapter One, which I recorded with Jack Hookey in Cowarr. Each release has morphed in style from country to a blend of more folky pop. My live show is solo acoustic and I use a loop pedal and try to make it as interesting as possible, and have just added an electric guitar to add something more dynamic.
Your Show/Release. I’ll be playing alongside Tori Dunbar and Angus Legg. I’m so stoked to be a part of this event and get to showcase my songwriting with some amazing Melbourne talent.
