How did the band come about? Vasco created the band a few years ago initially as a songwriting project to market his songs. It started out as an acoustic project, and over the years new members joined and now Cosmic Ruin is a fully-fledged rock band.
How would you describe your music? We like to think it’s melodic rock-pop covering a wide range of styles and genres. All the band members have different musical tastes and they all bring something to the band’s sound and creative process. From a songwriting point of view, The Beatles are the main inspiration along with everything that followed them.
What are some of the highlights so far? We’ve entered songs in a few songwriting competitions and made the finalist list of some including AIMAS, ASA and triple j Unearthed (top 10). Also, recording our first CD was a major achievement.
What are current activities of the band? We are gigging and breaking in new band members and songs at our next few shows. We’ll be launching our new CD at Mr Boogieman Bar soon.
What are the future plans? We will be recording our second CD later in the year and hope to crank up our gigging around Melbourne. We want to inflict our music on as many people as possible.
