2014 Meredith Music Festival Rumour Roundup

First up – the first act confirmed for the 2014 incarnation of Meredith was revealed last month in Philadelphian outfit The War on Drugs. Lock ’em in.

Rumours have it that each and every year Meredith get more and more requests for Ty Segall. Could 2014 be the year? We’re hearing rumours that Cloud Nothings are meant to be visiting mid-December, same goes for Sleep. We know that J Mascis is a Supernatural favourite and hasn’t visited in quite a while, and on a similar note it’d also be killer to see Mark Lanegan in some form.

While we’re at it, throw The Black Angels, Slint, Blood Brothers and Phosphorescent onto our wishlist. Jonathan Richman and Pissed Jeans are requested by attendees year-after-year, too, surely it’s just a matter of time? It’s also been too long inbetween Meredith drinks for Comets on Fire and Mogwai.

As for the locals? Teeth and Tongue have been killing it lately and would make a fine appearance in a Saturday afternoon slot. After his last-minute cancellation last year and with his debut record dropping next month there’s a good chance that Vance Joy will be billed. Hard-Ons are in career-best form and would make a formidable addition. It’d be criminal not to see Adalita back on the lineup, and it’s time to see the likes of Donny Benet, Kirin J Callinan and Wintercoats get the call up.

Late night sets? A return to Australia from Caribou is imminent with his new record set to drop mighty soon. Following recent visits from Derrick May and Moodymann it’s clear that Aunty Meredith has a taste for Detroit techno – so maybe Kyle Hall, Omar S or even Theo Parrish? Some of our killer local DJs always make an appearance – we’ve got on money on the likes of LA Pocock, Coober Peby University Band, Sleep DRecloose and Fantastic Man.

And who definitely isn’t playing? As much as we’d like to see Nick Cave return to the Sup, and while he is touring in Melbourne that very week, Aunty Meredith dismissed the speculation that he’d be on the lineup via her Twitter. Same goes for Damon Albarn.

While we’d love to see Ice Cube extend his Melbourne stay a few days extra for a Meredith stop-over we can pretty much guarantee that it won’t be happening, and as much as we’d be keen for FKA twigs to perform at Meredith following the release of her killer debut record last week, after she was interviewed by News Corp journalist Mikey Cahill recently it appears that she’ll be appearing on our shores a few months later after.

The last thing that we can confirm that will be at Meredith this year? Tinnies. Lots and lots of tinnies.
