$10 Million Contemporary Arts Precinct Revealed for Collingwood

The funds will be used to transform the site of the former Collingwood Technical School on Johnston Street into a creative hub providing spaces and support for non-profit small to medium sized creative organisations and individuals.

The space will provide a community area comprised of artist studios, rehearsal spaces, galleries, artisan workshops, cafes, and venues for performances and public events.

Capping it off comes a leafy courtyard, marked as public space in an area renowned for continuous development and population density.

The project is predicted to foster the creative community of Collingwood and surrounds, as well as offering a place to affordably incubate, showcase and grow the careers of emerging to mid-tier artists.

Submissions from prospective tenants will commence in July, with the first round opening to large organisations requiring extensive space and specific design requirements. Smaller organisations, individual artists and creatives will be encouraged to apply closer to the opening on the site in 2018.
