Ziggy Ramo: Human?

Athenaeum Theatre

Rapper Ziggy Ramo is known for sharing the sorts of truths that weren’t taught in history class, backed by looping samples and the beat of an 808 drum machine. His revamp of ‘From Little Things Big Things Grow’ – filmed standing on the sails of the Sydney Opera House with Paul Kelly – is “a history lesson every Australian should hear” (ABC). While his album Sugar Coated Lies was the 2023 Record of the Year at the FBi Radio SMAC awards.

Join Ramo as he takes to the stage at Melbourne Writers Festival for a live musical performance from his latest album. The first single ‘Banamba’ “honours those who have fought tirelessly for change on a date, January 26th, they are so often forgotten” (Rolling Stone).

Ramo also speaks with Jan Fran about his just-released memoir, Human?, that puts his power and passion onto the page; overturning colonial myths, celebrating his Wik and South Sea Islander heritage, and inviting readers to fight for a future that restores humanity to all.

Melbourne Writers Festival has an allocation of complimentary tickets available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Contact to access.
