Your guide to Melbourne’s 20+ Splendour in the Grass sideshows including Liam Gallagher, Duke Dumont, Jungle and more

Splendour In The Grass' hottest acts are coming to Melbourne this July in the festival's biggest ever sideshow program.

Byron festival behemoth Splendour In The Grass heralded the return of the Australian festival calendar this year with a barnstorming lineup, featuring the likes of Liam Gallagher, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Gorillaz, The Strokes, Tyler, The Creator and so, so many more.

Unsurprisingly, tickets sold out damn quickly. But whether you missed tix or just couldn’t make the roadtrip, there’s no need to fret. For the first time in the festival’s long history, the biggest names on the bill are all heading down south to play an intimate venue near you.

Keep up with the latest music news, features, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

However, it will come as no surprise that tickets to all of these gigs are flying out the door. Jack Harlow and Tom Misch sold out in just minutes, but have added brand new shows as a result. If you want to see these guys, get in as quick as you can. JPEGMAFIA, Still Woozy, and Holly Humberstone’s Melbourne shows have sold out super fast as well, but fans can click those links to sign up to the waitlists for more info.

How often do you get the chance to pick and choose your favourites like this? Pretty darn cool if you ask us. So without further-ado, here’s our run-down of all the Splendour sideshows coming to Melbourne in July.

Beat’s top picks

Liam Gallagher

The former Oasis and Beady Eye frontman is a force majeure, renowned for his uncompromising rock’n’roll attitude and explosive live shows. His gritted-yet-uplifting vocals have lost none of their impact, he’ll play all the hits you know and love, and he’s more than likely to pull some crazy antics that’ll make it a night to remember; it’s just his personality.

Tickets are on sale now, head here.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Karen O and her wonderful trio are one of the most talented and enduring rock bands of the millennium, with a back catalogue so varied that their live shows take you on an emotional journey. It’s all tied together with Karen’s remarkable vocals that are at home dishing gospel refrains as belting out rock anthems.

Tickets still available, grab them here.

Duke Dumont

He first exploded into the world’s clubbing consciousness with the smooth Grammy-nominated break-out hit ‘Need U 100%’, which epitomised the highest-quality, hard hitting disco house combination in-vogue of the era. Since then he’s hit as high as number five on the ARIA charts with ‘Ocean Drive’ and after releasing his debut album in 2020, is set to become an electronic superstar.

Yungblud

Nearly a billion streams says it all, really. UK chart-topper Yungblud is the biggest alt-pop act to come out of the British isles in recent years, with explosive lyricism, Sid Vicious looks and Travis Barker hooks, he’s become one of Australia’s favourite highly-emotive antidotes to the modern era. Special guests for this gig yet to be announced.

Oliver Tree

Who and what Oliver Tree really is still hasn’t been totally figured out by anyone. Suffice to say, while he embraces a stranger-than-thou ethos, the enigmatic singer-songwriter, producer, rapper, comedian and scooter enthusiast is winning over legions of fans through one full-throttle, danceable track after another.

Biig Piig

Irish electronic-infused singer and rapper Biig Piig is a diverse melting pot of inspirations, thanks in no small part to leaving Ireland as a young girl for Spain, before returning to her homeland as a teenager, melding the two languages together effortlessly in her work. Blending touching vocals with hard-hitting electronic kicks, she released one of the top dance tracks of 2020 with ‘Feels Right’ and she’s definitely one to watch.

Orville Peck

Peck boasts a deep soothing baritone with a country twang that’s capable of angelic, Chris Isaak falsettos, all soaring above dark, emotive Bruce Springsteen guitars and haunting lyrics. He’s the real country deal in a modern package, replete with a fringed-face mask a la SBTRKT. For the sheer vocal power and songwriting nous alone, well worth the price of admission.

The first show sold out, the new show will be on Monday 25 July. Presale is available this afternoon from 3pm, with general onsale available from 12pm on Friday 25 Feb.
