Returning to Melbourne with a stellar catalogue of local and interstate acts taking centre stage, Newtown brewers and distillers, Young Henrys, announce their first run of shows of the year, Young Henrys Presents at Lulie Tavern. Rustling music feathers every Friday throughout February in the Victorian suburb of Abbotsford, Young Henrys are bringing along some of the most exciting live acts including Auntie Leo & The Backstabbers, Loretta Miller, Thee Cha Cha Chas, Salarymen and more for another month of non-stop live music.
The Young Henrys Presents series will be kicking off on Friday, February 3, co-headlined by Auntie Leo & The Backstabbers who will be unleashing the blurred tones of their 60s surf rock-meets-spaghetti western tunes. The local crew from Werribee will be ripping fan-favourite tracks like “Space Garden” and “Roaches”, before the distinct Femmericana twang of our final co-headliners in Madeline Leman & The Desert Swells step up. Asserting a similar sound of 60s & 70s surf rock and pop, the band have seen fans fall head-over-heels with their soulful and lush grooves, influenced by the strong female protagonists of bygone eras. Featured on festival circuits at Out On The Weekend as well as Reservoir Stomp Festival, the Lulie Tavern is on course to witness an unforgettable opening weekend.
The following week on Friday, February 10, self-titled “ultimate party band” Thee Cha Cha Chas join the party. With the release of their debut EP Runnin’out of Time, Llusi Fuzzhound and Kylie Kooks honed in on their raucous brand of fuzzy rock’n’roll, and will have crowds on their feet as they ooze their barrage of undeniably heavy garage-punk bangers throughout the Tavern. Supporting the crew later this evening, are Melbourne rhythm and blues veterans and city icons, The Breadmakers. Originally forming in the late 80s, the local band have gained notoriety internationally in Spain and Japan, and will be bringing their wealth of talent to the stage, as well as the 60s Louisiana swing of their 2020 self-titled EP.
Powering into Friday, February 17, is the formidable Loretta Miller, founder of New Orleans-psych JAZZPARTY. Debuting her first ever single this year with “Eighteen” feat. Ruby Jones, Loretta has amassed fans around the globe having toured with the likes of Sharon Jones, The Cat Empire and more, and will be breathing her lush vocal melodies into the Melbourne pub. Following suit, Annie-Rose Maloney will ensure there’s no room on the main floor, closing the night with slow-burning ballads best paired with a frothie in hand.
Bringing the month of non-stop live music to a close on Friday, February 24, is the charming blend of pop, psych and folk outfit Salarymen. Gearing up for the release of their debut album later this year after being announced to perform at SXSW Austin, the duo have made a name for themselves through their enthralling live performances, and will be letting their indie sounds cut loose to Melbournians next month. As the Lulie Tavern calls last rounds and echoes the evening to its final stages, Victorian-based punk-rock posse Fan Girl step up. Sending sparks flying with their relentless debut album Elephant Room, the band have been praised for their meticulous storytelling ability, creating an uptempo melting pot of carefree indie-rock bops merged with snappy, lawless melodies and will be setting the Tavern alight when they touch down on QLD soil.
Supporting all acts every Friday night, local legend DJ Pistol Pete Whelan, will be on-ground to get crowds ready for the spectacular line-up of live acts. Keeping the drinks pouring all month long, Young Henrys will be serving up mouth-watering frothie specials throughout the series, for all punters looking for an unmissable live music experience in the heart of Melbourne.
