If a stranger approached you and asked you that question, what would you say?
That’s the beating heart of Monique Kerr’s original cabaret, Do You, Love?, performing with a full band at The Motley Bauhaus from October 1 -6 as part of Melbourne Fringe Festival.
It’s a question Kerr’s put to the test, taking to the streets of Warrane (Sydney) and Naarm (Melbourne) to place strangers on the spot and use their answers to create a show that discards the usual ‘why are we here’ homilies in search of a slightly more profound question: ‘Why do we think we’re here?’

It’s an intimate exploration of human existence, but it comes from quite a grounded place. Sitting at Sydney Harbour, watching Australians indulge in life’s simple pleasures, Kerr is absorbed with our seeming apathy to the horrors of the world. In Do You, Love?, they challenge us to consider if we’re tethered to our devices, oblivious to the fortune of simply existing in the moment.
Kerr’s exceptional musical prowess ties it all together. They’re a natural cabaret performer – equally at ease in song, dialogue, and performance – with a powerful vocal range, a red-hot backing band to match and a knack for storytelling through captivatingly witty lyricism.
They’ve been nominated for the Victorian Musical Theatre Guild award for best female lead and were one of the stars of last year’s Fringe Festival highlight; Ned Kelly the Big Gay Musical. They’ve also performed with The Australian Ballet (Swan Lake – Melb, Syd, Bris 2023; Alice in Wonderland – March 2024).
Expect raw, funny, tense, and hopeful perspectives melded into a mirror of your own existence, performed by a star in the making. What more can you ask of a night out?
