“Supporting U2 at Rod Laver was pretty fun.”
Name/Band:
"Kishore Ryan/Where Were You At Lunch."
Define your genre in five words or less:
"No thanks."
So, someone is walking past as you guys are playing, they then go get a beer and tell their friend about you… what do they say?
"’It sounded a bit pretentious, it gave me a headache and they didn’t even have a singer.’"
How long have you been gigging and writing?
"Since 2007, but we have all been busy with other things so we haven’t played many shows."
What has been your favourite gig you’ve ve played to date?
"Supporting U2 at Rod Laver was pretty fun."
Which band would you most like to have a battle/showdown with?
"Insane Clown Posse. They’d be all like ‘Magnets, how the fuck do they work?’ Peter Emptage (bassist in Where Were You At Lunch) and I (drummer) would just stand there with our arms crossed while Samaan Fieck (guitarist) played a series of tritones. They’d be like, ‘There are so many miracles up in this bitch!’ and then they’d disappear in a puff of smoke."
What inspires or has influenced your music the most?
"Sport statistics. We actually wrote some songs by transforming sport statistics into intervals and rhythms. That’s not a joke."
What do you think a band has to do these days to succeed?
"I have no idea."
Do you have any record releases to date? What? Where can I get it?
"No. Nothing. Nowhere."
Why should everyone come and see your band?
"I don’t think everyone should come and see us. It might not be your kind of thing. We’re proud of what we do and sometimes other people like it too."
When are you playing live/releasing your album/EP/single/etc?
"We’re playing Thursday March 3 at Yah Yah’s with Francis Plagne, Slow Hog and Eric Demetriou. It’s the first show of a five week residency etc."
