Under the Streamlining for Growth program, 100,000 lots will be rezoned over two years within key growth corridors.
The Streamlining for Growth program will be extended a further three years, helping councils streamline the subdivision process in order to get the ball rolling – aiding the speed of applications for residential and employment land and cutting through red tape.
This will help build up a four-month stock of lots for sale in growth corridors to create a more competitive market.
“By increasing supply of lots with good access to the jobs, schools, hospitals and public transport all Victorians need, we’re helping make housing more affordable,” said Treasurer Tim Pallas in a press release. “This increase in supply is also a boost to the construction industry, creating jobs in the growth corridors, as well as in established suburbs.”
The new suburbs include Lindum Vale, Donnybrook, Woodstock, Wollert, Pakenham East, Plumpton and Quandong.
“This is all about ensuring there is plenty of new housing coming to market to suit the varied needs of Victorian families, stay ahead of population growth and make new homes as affordable as possible,” said Minister for Planning Richard Wynne.
