Wanderer Festival adds three acts and launches triple j Unearthed competition

Words by staff writer

Wanderer Festival has announced three new acts and opened a triple j Unearthed competition for local musicians.

The festival has added Any Young Mechanic, Cheeky Leash and The Vasco Era to its already impressive lineup, which includes headliners Missy Higgins, The Living End and Boy & Bear. The announcement comes alongside the launch of a triple j Unearthed competition specifically for musicians from South East NSW.

The Wanderer Festival triple j Unearthed competition provides an exceptional opportunity for emerging artists from the region to secure a coveted spot on the festival lineup. The competition opens with particular significance given that headliner Missy Higgins launched her career through triple j Unearthed at age 17, recently being crowned number one in triple j Unearthed’s 100 Best Discoveries of all time.

Recent lineup additions showcase the festival’s diverse musical programming. Adelaide alt-folk outfit Any Young Mechanic are preparing for European festival appearances at Reading, Leeds and Rock en Seine this month. Cheeky Leash brings energetic indie rock with punchy hooks and good vibes, while The Vasco Era delivers raw wild energy balanced with tender and beautiful tones.

The arts program has also expanded with the return of La Petite Grande, a pop-up theatre featuring mind-blowing acrobatics, side-splitting comedy, gravity-defying juggling and record-breaking hula hoops. Hosts Kiki and Pascal present 20-minute shows designed for multi-generational audiences.

Organisers report tickets are selling twice as fast as the previous event, with the complete lineup now finalised and set times released. The festival app is available for attendees to plan their weekend across the comprehensive music and arts program.

Saturday’s music program features Missy Higgins, Saint Motel, Hockey Dad, Magic Dirt, Pierce Brothers and Grace Cummings among others. Sunday showcases The Living End, Boy & Bear, Jacob Banks, Petit Biscuit, Cut Copy and Emma Donovan alongside the newly announced acts.

The festival maintains its reputation as a genuine celebration of culture, expertly weaving the unique creative spirit of South East NSW through its diverse program of national and international artists. As a biennial event, the next Wanderer Festival won’t return until 2027.
