Video Premiere: This Way North explore the perils of night terrors

This Way North

The stuff of nightmares.

Homegrown indie rock duo This Way North have released their latest single, ‘Night Terrors’, a track exploring the perils that come with having a sleeping disorder.

‘Night Terrors’ was written last year and draws from guitarist Leisha Jungalwalla’s frequent struggle with the condition. The track’s sliding guitars and deep-sounding drums illustrate the chaos that comes from having an unpeaceful rest.

The accompanying music video, directed by Vanessa Cox, depicts a selection of dimly-lit rooms and unnerving camera shots. Shot in a 1920s artisan building in Brisbane, Cox said she wanted to communicate what the feeling of having a night terror is like.

“The thing that really fascinated me in terms of the theme and the sound of the song is that despite being about the darker subject of night terrors the song still has an uplifting sound,” Cox said.

“I wanted the clip to be quite dark and still for the quieter parts of the song but I also felt that supporting the upbeat chorus with light and movement would work well to give a contrast from the feeling of a night terror and the upbeat complexities of the track.”
