The new single is inspired by Ken Kesey’s celebrated novel, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest.
After an unforgettable summer performing at some of New Zealand’s biggest festivals – such as the TSB Festival of Lights and Tora Bombora – The Butlers are releasing a lively new music video and single, ‘One Flew’.
Recorded at The Sitting Room in Lyttleton, Christchurch, the single combines the band’s signature surf-rock sound – heavily influenced by a life of surfing and living in the seaside suburb of Sumner – with Stingy Hooligan’s addictive saxophone solos.
‘One Flew’ is an energising headbanger filled with pulsating keys and beats. Its silky vocals – shared between bandmembers Walt Robberds, George Berry and Jordan Kennedy – contrast splashes of funky, alt rock goodness that recall the likes of Ocean Alley and Lime Cordiale.
The music video is as much a burst of youthful, adventurous energy as the song is. As The Butlers run together – across train tracks and the streets, enjoying car trips, arcade games and pints of beer – the song’s vitality is reciprocated, making it an infectious pick-me-up to listening ears.
Off the back of the new track, The Butlers will continue their New Zealand festival streak with a set the Banks Peninsula Festival on Saturday February 20. Following that, with a new year and mountains of opportunity within New Zealand’s COVID-placid surrounds, the world is The Butlers’ oyster.
