Victory Lap is a gripping and immersive one-person show that pulls you into a world of reflection and raw emotion. Picture yourself on the edge of the ocean, where the waves carry whispers of who you were meant to be, the people who have touched your life, and the ones who have slipped away.
This evocative journey delves into the delicate dance of time and the fragile threads that tie us to our past, present, and future. Victory Lap is more than just a performance—it’s an experience that takes you through the tumultuous waters of life, guided by the introspective and often disjointed reflections of Billy. As they navigate their twenties, Billy confronts grief, mental health struggles, and the relentless pursuit of staying grounded amidst the chaos.
“Sometimes you lose them. Sometimes you lose them all at once. Sometimes, from a great distance. Sometimes you don’t even realise you’ve lost them until you turn around to look and all that is left is you. Sometimes, try as you might to hold on, the rope snags and splits and goes limp in your hands, and you lose them anyway.”
Written and directed by Mashaka Gunnulson, this semi-autobiographical work captures the essence of early adulthood’s trials and tribulations. Victory Lap explores the depths of mental health, the shadows of suicide, and the bittersweet reality of growing up. This project received Cash for Equity through the Fringe Fund, as part of the Ralph Mclean Microgrants program
