Victorian Pride Centre: Australia’s first dedicated LGBTQIA+ community hub opens in St Kilda

The opening of the Victorian Pride Centre coincides with the date announcement for Melbourne Pride 2021.

Australia’s first purpose-built community hub for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and gender diverse, queer, intersex and asexual (LGBTQIA+) communities has been opened in Victoria.

Located at 79-81 Fitzroy Street, St Kilda, the Victorian Pride Centre will offer people of LGBTQIA+ communities a space to come together and access inclusive services, learn about LGBTQIA+ history and watch and be involved in LGBTQIA+ art and performances within the centre’s theatrette and gallery.

LGBTQIA+ organisations will be based at the centre, including LGBTQIA+ media outlets and health services, alongside others such as Transgender Victoria, Minus18, Switchboard Victoria, Thorne Harbour Health, the Australian GLBTIQ Multicultural Council, Melbourne Queer Film Festival and bookshop Hares and Hyenas.

The Victorian Pride Centre will also be home to the Australian Queer Archives, offering public access to an expansive collection and documentation of history, while a reflection room and other event, social and co-working spaces will be located at the centre.

The physical venue comes alongside a virtual Pride Centre as well, providing an online directory of LGBTQIA+ resources and events for anyone no matter their location.

The reveal of the Victorian Pride Centre also coincides with the date announcement for Melbourne Pride 2021. Taking place on Sunday December 5, Melbourne Pride 2021 will celebrate and support LGBTQIA+ communities with a one-day street party in Melbourne’s inner-north and other activities taking place across regional Victoria.
