For the duration of the lockdown, Victorians will only be permitted to leave their homes for five reasons: shopping for essential items, authorised work or education, to exercise for up to two hours per day with no more than one other person, caregiving, or to get vaccinated.
The 5km travel limit will be reinstated and masks will remain mandatory at all times outside the home.
Public and private gatherings, excluding intimate partners and single bubbles, will not be permitted.
“We only get one chance to act fast,” said Premier Dan Andrews. “We’ve been through that long, long lockdown. We went through that last year.”
“I can’t tell you how disappointed I am to be here doing this again,” he said. “The alternative is we let this run, it gets away from us and our hospitals will be overwhelmed.”
