Apparently Melbourne singer-songwriter type Vance Joy has landed himself a five album US deal with Atlantic Records. Which is by all means, a good thing for him. Congratulations, Vance Joy. But what exactly does a five album deal mean in 2013? Does the dude, or record label, actually foresee five albums eventuating in the next 20 years? If anything, it goes to show the perceived bankability of rollicking, post-Fleet Foxes folk. Play With Fire is pleasant enough, sitting comfortably just underneath Mumford & Sons’ stadium-scale anthems. World-class, but not exactly breaking any new ground.
