underscores is bringing her genre-bending live show back to Australia

Words by staff writer

San Francisco's pop shapeshifter underscores is heading back to Australian shores this December for a run of headline theatre shows in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, with support from producer and DJ umru at every date.

The tour lands off the back of her third album U, released through Mom+Pop earlier this year. The record has racked up more than 80 million streams globally and picked up a triple j Feature Album nod, cementing a catalogue that’s evolved from teenage SoundCloud uploads into a full-blown exercise in genre demolition — spanning hyperpop, alt-pop and everything in between.

underscores, aka April Harper Grey, has been building a fiercely devoted fanbase since her 2017 debut skin purifying treatment EP, followed by 2021’s fishmonger and the concept album Wallsocket.

She’s shared stages and studio time with the likes of 100 gecs, Porter Robinson, Oklou, Yaeji and Danny Brown, and played major international festivals including Coachella, Lollapalooza and Corona Capital.

Joining her on all headline dates is New York-based Estonian-American producer umru, whose distorted maximalist approach has seen him work with Charli xcx, A. G. Cook, Laura Les and Tommy Cash, bridging the gap between underground electronics and mainstream pop.

Frontier Members can access a presale from 10am local time on 26 August, with general tickets on sale from 12pm local time on 28 August.
