Tubular Bells For Two Hits Melbourne

Mike Oldfield’s masterpiece, re-arranged for only two people…

There are twenty instruments and only two musicians: Aidan Roberts (The Maple Trail/Belles Will Ring) and Daniel Holdsworth (The Saturns/The Maple Trail) have re-done Oldfield’s opus and turned it into a miraculous feat of multitasking and memory.

Their intricately choreographed work takes the unlikely smash hit that was Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells and turns into a fascinating live music experience. Straight from the ’70s, the layers, soundscapes and beautiful melodies are played out on pianos, organs, electric guitars, acoustic and spanish guitars, bass guitar, mandolin, tuned percussion, drums, glockenspiel, loop pedals, synths and the eponymous tubular bells, designed especially for the composition.

This is the composition that kick-started Richard Branson’s Virgin Music Empire.

It finally comes in some form to Melbourne, re-invigorated by two talented young musical minds from Sydney.

FULL TILT and The Arts Centre present Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells For Two performed and arranged by Aidan Roberts and Daniel Holdsworth at The Arts Centre Fairfax Studio from April 29 until May 5. Tickets are $30/$25 from The Arts Centre Website or 1300 182 183.
