Minister for the Arts, Heidi Victoria, today announced that $1.3 million will be injected into the state’s independent arts sector and directly benefit more than 2,200 Victorian artists.
The contemporary music recipients were:
Triple R ($30,000) for the production and presentation of Triple R’s 2014 live-to-air performance program.
Melbourne Jazz Co-operative ($20,000) for its 2014 concert series program.
Big Scary ($15,000) for a US tour including South By Southwest showcases
Sophia Brous ($10,000) to record her debut solo album.
Ainslie Wills ($10,000) to make a folk album.
Western Suburbs Musicians Co-operative ($10,000) to promote and present live performances by musicians of diverse backgrounds and styles.
Way Out West ($10,000) to create a new contemporary music work.
Laura Jean ($6,009) to an album in Bristol, UK, with producer John Parish.
Teeth & Tongue ($5,200) to make and produce new album Grids.
PBS ($5,320) towards the presenting and programming of its Drive Live program which broadcasts live sets by emerging artists.
Biddy Connor ($7,420) towards recording and performing a collaboration with American composer Erik Deluca.
Australian Art Orchestra ($40,000) for its 20th anniversary program next year.
