See the Triennial in its most dazzling form yet.
The NGV’s Triennial has been a smash hit since it opened this December. The museum has been packed to the rafters with art enthusiasts of all ages, wandering through the halls and taking in the total transformation of Victoria’s favourite art space.
If all that isn’t enough, the museum has just announced Triennial EXTRA: a free festival of after-dark art, live music, DJs, performances, talks, dance, and so much more. Running from January 18 to 28, the museum will be open until 11pm, with each night a little different than the last.

Some of Australia’s finest DJs will be hitting the decks during the festival, including C.FRIM, Claddy, Adriana, Siu Zhen, Darcy Justice, dameeeela, IN2STELLAR, Kgomotso, D. Tyron, RONA. and DJ JNETT.

There will also be live music spanning across the genres. Ethereal Chinese Australian musician and composer Mindy Meng Wang 王萌 will be taking up a residency during the event and there will be showings of Melbourne Opera’s Alter-ed States and the choral work Alchemy Consort: It Lights the Whole Sky.
As well as checking out everything the gallery has in store, Triennial EXTRA visitors can also take part in interactive art installations, including David Shigley’s Melbourne Tennis Ball Exchange, where guests can trade in their own old personalised tennis balls for one of 8,000 brand new ones, and Richard Lewer’s Confessions, where guests are invited to divulge their truths and express themselves.
And what kind of party would it be without food and drinks? There will be on-site bars providing libations from Moet & Chandon, Four Pillars Gin and Yering Station. Plus, the NGV’s serene Garden Restaurant will be open late, offering à la carte dining throughout the event.
With free entry, live music and more art than you’ll be able to take in in one go, Triennial EXTRA is not to be missed.
