What’s your name then? Oh. And the name of your band…

Tom King, my band is called No Love for Lexi

And what do you do?

Sing, write songs and play guitar.

When did you start doing that?

I started playing guitar when I was about 5 yrs old.

Why did you start doing that?

I remember listening to the Woodface album by Crowded House on repeat when I was a wee lad. Also mum was a music teacher and Dad owned nearly every Neil Young recording so I think it’s a combination of those three things.

Do you think you’re good at doing that?

I guess that’s up to the audience to decide, I just really enjoy writing songs and playing in a band with 3 really talented dudes.

If you weren’t doing that, what would you be doing?

Continue to be a Youth Worker and probably start busking under the Clifton Hill Bridge.

What makes you happiest about what you’re doing?

The chance to switch off the old brain for an hour while playing a gig.
And having a few quite ones with friends after we play.

And what makes you unhappiest about what you’re doing?

Without fail the hour before we play a show I get very tired and anxious. The rest of the band thinks it’s pretty funny. Our bass player and our guitar player just relax, hunting out the best coffee spots near the gig. Our drummer just chills out listening to his Ipod.

What’s you proudest moment of doing what you do?

This year I was accepted into the Freeza Central Mentoring program, and I was fortunate enough to work with Davey Lane from You Am I/The Pictures.

He’s a guy who’ve I looked up to since I was like 10 or something!

Hanging out together and playing a gig last week at the East Brunswick Club has been a massive highlight for the year.

And your least proud?

Wearing shorts on stage… D’oh!

When are you doing your thing next?

No Love for Lexi are playing every Wednesday at the Evelyn in August.
At the same time we will start work on our EP that Davey will be producing and recording for us at his home studio.. Very exciting times ahead!
