Billy Davis, MzRizk and Kaiit Waup @ Forecourt, State Library

Part of the standout Lunch Box series, today will see a potent pairing of artists provide some afternoon musical relief to Melbourne. Neo-soul act Billy Davis will be bringing a healthy dose of futuristic R&B to the State Library, while party-starter DJ MzRizk will deliver the goods in fine form – the perfect pairing for a lunchtime boogie. Capping it off, singer/songwriter Kaiit Waup will be channelling jazz and soul through a lens entirely of her own.

The Man Behind the Band: Fred Negro @ Experimedia, State Library

Discover the real stories of live music icon and cartoonist Fred Negro in this retrospective conversation, going down at the Melbourne Music Week Hub. In conversation with Dan Warner, Negro will discuss the music, artwork and mayhem behind the St Kilda scene in the 1980s, 1990s, noughties and beyond. Presenting images of Fred’s work, found in the State Library Victoria collection, they will unpick the legend behind the image. Each story will result in musical magic as Dan and Fred spontaneously create a song to illustrate the story, with the help of the Fred Negro house band.

SYNTHESIS: Sound + Yoga @ Chunky Move

The worlds of movement and sound combine in a symbiotic way with this interesting Melbourne Music Week event. Punters will be guided through the yogic teachings of Dina Smirnova, set to the sounds of Nat Grant’s live electro-acoustic world. Each class also explores the power of directing sound into various areas of the body through guided breath work and sound meditation techniques
