Can you hear the sound of fierce funk? The melody of lively jazz? The strings of heartfelt soul? Then you’re probably at Springrock Public Bar.

Then you’re probably at Springrock Public Bar.

Kicking off this October and running from 9pm every Friday and Saturday, Spring Jazz is the new live music event set to take over the NYC-inspired bar in the heart of the city, featuring some of the best and brightest of Melbourne’s funk and jazz scene.

“Spring Jazz was conceptualized by Kent and the team at Springrock to showcase the monumental amount of talented musicians in this city,” Springrock’s resident music booker, Fergie B explains. “Melbourne has such a vibrant live music culture and we are excited to showcase some of this talent in our humble bar.”

Keep up with the latest music news, features, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

This boisterous live music event boasts a wide array of funk, jazz and soul-based talent that’ll leave you wanting more. “We’re excited for people to enjoy some sweet, soul-soothing music on their weekends, free of charge.” From the Jake Amy Trio to Larry Crestani and Laneous, this lineup has something to satisfy any vibe.

Touching upon Larry Crestani, Fergie B notes “he regularly plays with the 10+ piece Black Jesus Experience, but in his Standing Circle project and jams with Laneous, no one ever quite knows where the journey will take them.” Audiences will be in store for an incredible jam session as Larry Crestani and Laneous deliver a smashing performance on the guitar and Kraartar.

Meanwhile, Fergie B’s excitement over the Jake Amy Trio’s set is palpable. “Jake Amy is one of Australia’s most highly sought-after keys players, holding it down for Kaait, Alexander Flood, Emma Volard, Bumpy, Canisha and Malla, all whilst recording with different artists every week.” He continues, “We can’t wait to see what he comes up with at Spring Jazz, as no Jake Amy Trio performance has ever been the same.”

His enthusiasm extends to every part of the incredible lineup that also includes talented musicians such as wckt kpr, Holy Smokes and Standing Circle. Reflecting on other musicians in the Spring Jazz lineup, he notes, “We’re excited for all the performances! The best thing about all these performers is they’ve always got a surprise. That’s part of why we love live music.”

However, the surprises won’t just be limited to the stage. Spring Jazz promises to keep attendees on their toes with an incredible range of drink specials and a late-night dinner menu if you’re feeling a bit peckish after 10pm. “Come grab a seat, a bite to eat or some drinks and see where the night takes you. There’s a few places right nearby where you can easily make a night out.

“It’s an honour to work with such amazing artists and give them a room to let rip,” Fergie B muses. “I expect those who catch any of the shows will leave feeling pleasantly surprised with what they’ve witnessed at Springrock.”
