Two music icons are set to be honoured by some of Melbourne's finest classical musicians and a sea of sparkling candles.
In a glorious union of sonic brilliance and atmospheric wonder, Prahran Square is about to get lit – literally. The beloved Candlelight Concert is set to return this March, drenching the space in the warm glow of thousands of candles while a string quartet brings the bangers of Queen and The Beatles to life.
The free gig celebrates two monumental milestones in music history: 60 years since The Beatles dropped their album Help! featuring the timeless tearjerker Yesterday, and a half-century since Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody blew minds and changed rock forever.

Music lovers can expect to be transported through decades of anthems as 5,000 candles transform the Square into a flickering wonderland under the autumn night sky. The string quartet will reimagine the iconic catalogues of both bands, proving once again that great songs transcend time, genre and instrumentation.
The evening offers more than just music, with several great restaurants and bars nearby. Known as a hotspot for wine bars, cafes, pubs, take-out spots and fine dining restaurants, it’s an excellent opportunity to make a complete night out in Prahran: dinner, drinks and musical entertainment all in one candlelit package.
Local venues will be featuring plenty of special offers on the day, making your night out even sweeter.
The combination of string arrangements and flickering candlelight creates something entirely new while honouring the original pop-rock prowess. And the best part? It won’t cost you a cent. In an era of eye-watering ticket prices, this free concert event is a welcome reminder that music belongs to everyone.
So round up your mates, pack a picnic rug, and prepare for a night where Yesterday meets Bohemian Rhapsody in the most magical setting imaginable.
