Language learning platform Preply analysed over 100 libraries and bookshops worldwide. They examined online reviews from Google and TripAdvisor to create their rankings. State Library Victoria achieved an impressive rating of 95.21 in their popularity survey.

Preply highlighted the library’s rich history and architectural beauty as key factors. The Neo-Classical building has wowed visitors since opening 171 years ago. Its stunning dome serves as the crown jewel of Swanston Street.

The library’s success extends beyond popularity rankings. More than 200,000 votes were cast in the 1000 Libraries Awards 2025. State Library Victoria emerged as the world’s seventh most beautiful library according to readers worldwide.

This recognition continues the library’s streak of international acclaim. The institution has consistently appeared in global library rankings over recent years. Its combination of historical significance and architectural grandeur attracts visitors from around the world.

Australia performed exceptionally well in the beauty rankings. State Library of South Australia claimed second place globally. The Library of Trinity College Dublin took the top spot as the world’s most beautiful library.
