Holidaymaker Records and Polemika have announced a full moon winter solstice takeover of Fitzroy’s iconic Russian House building.

They’re calling the event The Solstice House and theming it around the nine circles of hell present in Dante’s Inferno, with a 14-act lineup spread across two levels including an intriguing lineup of artists “in the walls”. Things might get a bit weird at this one (hopefully) but it’s not the only winter solstice festival around this weekend.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around Melbourne here.

For those unaware, Fitzroy’s Russian House is a beautiful 1800s building that was originally built as a community medical centre, then taken over by the area’s Russian immigrant community in the 1960s. Today, it’s usually an event space for weddings and other hire-purposes, but to see it come alive for a solstice party could be very special indeed.

The Solstice House will be a double-storey multi-arts party structured around the descent through Dante’s 9 Circles of Hell throughout the evening, guided by an eclectic lineup of bands, musicians, DJs, performers and visual artists.

On the upstairs level, you’ll be able to catch Ceramic Flowers, Frantic Items, Fuzzsucker, Megacube, Nash Johnston, Radio Nanyang and SUPER CARRY. Downstairs, you’ll be able to watch Dave, KONG, The Patersons, Radarman, R.M. Murphy, Tangerine, wobblethem and Zelkova. Plus, in the walls – whatever that means – you’ll apparently be wowed by the likes of Claude Morgan, Fazool, Jelly Boss, Mimi and Wimsy.

There are heaps of other winter solstice parties happening around Melbourne this weekend, check out some more here.

There’ll be a fully licensed bar with wine by The Big Sleep and Pool Wines, plus cocktails, beer and spirits. Doors: 3pm-11pm. Grab tickets and find out more info here.
