There’s a three-day live music celebration coming to this Abbotsford brewery

Bodriggy Brewpub are at it again. Abbotsford's favourite indie beer and bangers destination is throwing a three-day bash with 15 fab local acts - including a selection from the one-and-only Anti Fade Records -and nearly as many tasty brews on offer.

It’s cosmically called Lunaverse and the good folks at Bodriggy are promising an ‘immersion of dark and dank independent beer and music’. The three-day long party (although you can’t sleep there no matter how pissed you get) is going down from August 5 – 7, featuring the esteemed likes of Parsnip, Alien Nose Job, JNETT, Milo Eastwood and San of the Rambutan, just to name a few.

Bodriggy’s events are always super affordable and accessible and with Anti Fade behind the bill, you’re guaranteed a fantastic mixture of chill and uplifting. This won’t just be your standard brew party though – while there’ll certainly be plenty of grouse beers and live tunes, there’ll also be free career workshops and sensory events. It’ll be a little bit special, hence the rather lofty Lunaverse moniker. If you were lucky enough to head along to Bodriggy’s summer festival Electric Kool-Aid, you’ll know to expect some excellent acts, but this wintery version may expand the mind a little more.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around Melbourne here.

Bodriggy Brewpub’s Lunaverse will swell the brewery – which already brims with rustic character – into an Abbotsford party hub with an exclusive tap list and menu. Beer lovers are encouraged to book a table and enjoy a delicious feed while enjoying fresh froffs. You can book out a table or booth in the brewpub on any of the days, so you and your mates get a reserved area all to yourself.

Some of our favourite breweries will be creating new beers especially for the festival, expect the likes of Banks Brewing, Deeds, Grifter, Hop Nation, Molly Rose, Mountain Culture, One Drop, Rocky Ridge, Sailors Grave, Garage Project and Shapeshifter, with more to be announced.

Kicking off Friday evening, Anti Fade Records will be curating performances with live acts from 7pm (entry is free until 6pm).

“It’ll be a diverse night of local and interstate talent to keep you on your feet – made up with Queensland’s Pious Faults, local sensations Parsnip, Program, Smarts, The Prize & hotshot DJ’s Mikey Young and Alien Nosejob,” label boss Billy Gardner told us. “Expect to see some of the finest in punk, post-punk, garage, alternative and power pop this city – and Queensland! – has to offer. DJ’s Mikey and Jake will be genre-boundless I am sure.”

Anti Fade’s intention is simple: “as always; just a good night filled with great music and a friendly audience,” Billy explains, “Pious Faults’ new set is very different to their recorded stuff – anyone who saw them off their last Victorian trip in March will understand – it’s hard to summarise and I’m really unsure who to even reference, maybe PiL? Maybe Wire? I’m not even sure. Come and decide for yourself and make sure you get down early to see Mikey and Jake kick the night off from 5pm, and see The Prize play from 7pm.”

From 12pm on Saturday, guests can participate in an array of workshops and sensory events for free (registration required – limited spots available). All events will feature Bodriggy brewers plus special guests from participating breweries. Events include:

  • Craft Beer Sensory Basics (booked out)
  • Brewer Tours (booked out)
  • Craft Beer Careers featuring Q+A with head brewers from Hop Nation, Deeds and Bodriggy (still spots left!)

From 4pm until close, live music and electronic acts will take over the venue on Saturday, including Stingrays Upstairs (entry is free until 4pm). Sunday will be free entry all day with live music presented by Heartworn Highways.

All guests will be invited to vote for their favourite beer via the Lunaverse app from over ten breweries presenting the best in dark and dank froffs. Tallies will be presented live, with the winner announced on Sunday. All in all, over 20 twenty artists will be bringing the heat, playing live in the Brewpub and Stingrays Upstairs, Friday to Sunday.

Once again, there’s more artist announcements still to come. For those not in the know, Bodriggy Brewing Co. is the brainchild of Dr Morse owners Jon Costelloe, Anthony Daniel and Pete Walsh, featuring a huge bar with 64 taps pouring craft beers, wine and cocktails, and a dining area serving up delicious Latin American fare by chef John Dominguez.

“Beer and music have co-existed at Bodriggy since the get go,” co-founder Peter Walsh said. “With Lunaverse we’re honing in on a mood & beer style that we think can be explored in music too. It was important for us to look at how we can make attendance as seamless as possible. So the small cover charge just applies when the music starts and we’re keeping Sunday free to attend. All our other activities (craft beer workshops and flash tattoos) are free to attend but require registration.”

Bodriggy is at 245 Johnston Street, Abbotsford. Tickets are available here or you can book a table here.
