Aesop Queer Library makes its fifth return to Melbourne, transforming the Prahran store into a literary haven celebrating LGBTQIA+ voices.
The global initiative champions historically marginalised voices by highlighting titles that explore BIPOC, trans and gender non-conforming perspectives. Since its inception, the Aesop Queer Library has distributed over 100,000 books to readers worldwide, establishing itself as a significant force in promoting diverse literary voices.
This year’s edition operates under the unified theme In Other Words, celebrating the liberating possibilities of LGBTQIA+ self-expression and stories that exist beyond heteronormative constraints and expectations. The Melbourne iteration of Aesop Queer Library will see the Prahran store completely transformed, with all beauty products removed from shelves to make way for carefully curated books.

The temporary bookstore will feature titles sourced from queer, independent and local bookstores, ensuring the selection authentically represents diverse voices within the LGBTQIA+ community. Visitors can browse the collection and select a complimentary book of their choice, with no purchase required during the event period.
Beyond the literary offerings, Aesop will provide aromatic accompaniments designed to enhance reading moments, creating a sensory experience that combines the brand’s signature approach to fragrance with the power of storytelling. The initiative represents more than just a marketing activation, serving as a genuine commitment to amplifying voices that have historically been underrepresented in mainstream literature.
The transformation of the retail space into a temporary library highlights the intersection between commerce and community activism, demonstrating how brands can use their platforms to support meaningful causes. The event continues Aesop’s tradition of creating spaces that go beyond traditional retail experiences, fostering community engagement and cultural dialogue.
Melbourne’s vibrant LGBTQIA+ community and strong literary culture make it an ideal location for this year’s Aesop Queer Library, with Prahran’s diverse neighbourhood providing the perfect backdrop for this celebration of queer voices and stories.
