French artist Joanie Lemercier from Studio Lemercier will present Constellations – a large-scale celestial formation which will hover above its own shimmering reflection on the Yarra River’s surface along Southbank after dark.

Be sure to visit Southbank after dark to witness French artist Joanie Lemercier’s mystical light show Constellations. This event will leave the Yarra River’s surface awash with celestial formations and dazzling geometric displays.

A celestial formation hovers above its own shimmering reflection on the Yarra River’s surface after dark. Glowing, morphing and refracting, it’s as though a portal to another dimension is being opened right before our eyes.

A large-scale light show on the Yarra River

Constellations by artist Joanie Lemercier is an abstract journey through the geometric structure formed by the universe. This mysterious, audio-visual installation is viewed from the banks of the Yarra, where light is projected on invisible water particles to form shapes and intangible structures in the air, creating in 3D-like visuals. This environment becomes a gate for the exploration of the cosmos, allowing us to travel through the planets and stars, moving from the heart of a black hole into deep space while keeping our feet planted firmly on the ground.

An ominous, electronic soundscape by producer Paul Jebansam accompanies Lemercier vectorial, monochromatic aesthetics as we search together for the limits of the universe.

  • Joanie Lemercier has worked on stage designs, architectural projections, and installations, collaborating with artists including Jay-Z, Flying Lotus and Portishead’s Adrian Utley.
  • Environmentally conscious, Studio Joanie Lemercier’s work is is inspired by nature and environmental activism and as a result never travels overseas to reduce carbon emissions.
