Day Tripper, RISING Festival's acclaimed mini-festival within a festival, is coming back to dominate Swanston Street this June.

RISING’s beloved Day Tripper event returns with an explosive lineup spanning multiple venues, featuring Brooklyn shoegazers DIIV, gospel-disco outfit Annie and the Caldwells, Atlanta rapper BKTHERULA, and saltwater rock band Ripple Effect Band from Arnhem Land among many other eclectic acts.

Taking over three key Melbourne locations, the day party promises eight hours of boundary-pushing music, performance art, and mind-bending laser installations for the culturally adventurous.

Melbourne Town Hall will serve as the main stage, hosting DIIV’s swirling feedback-drenched melodies alongside a diverse lineup including Mount Kimbie (returning for their first Australian DJ set in over a decade), Antenna (featuring Royal Headache’s Shogun), and digital dancehall experimentalist Tikiman who teams up with Richard Akingbehin.

Meanwhile, Max Watt’s becomes home to a bittersweet celebration as Chapter Music – one of Australia’s longest-running independent labels – throws its farewell party while simultaneously marking its 33rd birthday. The label showcase will feature beloved Chapter artists including Andras & Oscar, Gregor, Japanese group Tenniscoats, Little Ugly Girls, and the Guy Blackman Band. Special guests include cosmic-slacker musician Ryan Davis flying in from Kentucky and rising Pluggnb star Sidney Phillips from Brisbane.

For those seeking more experimental sounds, Night Trade will host a showcase from Uganda’s influential Nyege Nyege collective, celebrating a decade of bringing ‘afrogalactic’ electronic music to global audiences. The Capitol Theatre offers yet another dimension with Shohei Fujimoto’s intangible #form, described as a “laser-spiked gateway into the bleeding edge of perception.”

Day Tripper tickets will be available to RISING subscribers from Friday 15 March at 10am, with general sales beginning Monday 17 March. At $129, the single ticket grants access to all three venues for the full eight-hour sonic journey.

The event is part of the wider RISING Festival running from June 4-15 across Melbourne, which includes performances by Marlon Williams and numerous other events including the Night Trade food and music hub that runs throughout the festival period.

This 18+ event marks another ambitious programming choice from RISING, which continues to build its reputation for bringing together cutting-edge international acts with Australia’s most exciting emerging and established talents.
