There’s A Ghost In My Cupcake

As I take my seat in the beautiul Bosco theatre to watch There’s A Ghost In My Cupcake, I am acutely aware that I am in a minority, and they look a lot less suspicious than I do. To be brutally honest, because I have not had the displeasure of being burdened with a child, I must look like I am on some sort of register. It is true, the adults in today’s performance are greatly outnumbered by a large group of nauseatingly enthusiastic children, and although the show is aimed at the younsters amongst us, there is still a comic appeal for the chaperones.

The lights go up, and silence falls among the audience, as we are introduced to our performers, Alex, Simon and Tom. They are the founding members of the Spookological Society, which sets out to solve all manners of spooky mysteries, and today is no different, as they are here to solve another mystery; The case of the haunted cupcake! With a healthy mix of puppetry, interactive videos, hypnosis, and japes between the protagonists, we are witness to a highly enjoyable show. There is a good deal of silly jokes, and toilet humour, but the show doesn’t remain in the gutter for long, with the performers riffing along with the random input of the children in the crowd, and getting alot of laughter out of the adults.

The show hurries along at a pace which will keep the kids happy, and all with a nice slice of crowd interaction, which should give them the chance to bellow at the top of their voices without fear of being hushed. This is fantastic stuff, and really shows how enthusiasm, and smart performing will always win out against some schmuck in a dinosaur outfit on Kids TV. This show is only in town for a week, so I recommend you see this while you can.
