There’s a fancy new way to experience AAMI Park and it involves Australia’s best wine

Words by staff writer

Melbourne Food and Wine Festival is serving up an exclusive evening inside AAMI Park's most premium lounge.

The Melbourne Food and Wine Festival knows how to throw a party, and Halliday Wines at Melbourne Park might just be one of its most decadent offerings yet. The event transforms AAMI Park’s Melbourne Lounge into a one-night-only celebration of Victorian winemaking and high-end gastronomy, complete with a chance to sip some of Australia’s finest drops while standing on the actual field of play.

Halliday Wines at Melbourne Park brings together the expertise of Halliday Wine Companion and acclaimed chef Jesse Hughes from Geelong’s beloved ALMA and Felix restaurants. The evening kicks off with canapes served directly on the stadium’s turf before guests move into Australasia’s most premium lounge space for a five-course feast matched with a handpicked selection of wines scoring 96 points and above.

The star attraction here is undoubtedly the rare opportunity to taste Thistledown This Charming Man Single Vineyard Clarendon Grenache 2024 – the sold-out Australian Wine of the Year according to Halliday Wine Companion. A special guest from Australia’s wine community will guide the tasting experience, sharing stories and perspectives behind each pour.

Hughes has designed a menu that draws on South American influences with dishes including potato and provolone empanadas with huacatay mayonnaise, plantain tostadas topped with king prawn and salsa picante, and anticucho of chicken thigh and heart with yellow chilli. Larger share plates feature baked snapper with shallot, honey and coriander, while mains centre on roasted wagyu rump cap with café de Buenos Aires. The evening wraps up with vanilla flan accompanied by hazelnut and dulce de leche.

The event caters to various dietary requirements including low gluten, vegan and vegetarian options. Wheelchair access is available, and the dress code simply requests no thongs.
