Village Cinemas will open a state-of-the-art IMAX cinema at Westfield Fountain Gate in November.
The new IMAX theatre marks a significant milestone for Village Cinemas, representing the first collaboration between the cinema chain, IMAX, and Scentre Group. The partnership aims to create premium entertainment destinations across key Australian locations.
Village Cinemas has spent seven decades reimagining the cinema experience, from luxury Gold Class seating to family-focused Vjunior concepts. The arrival of IMAX at Westfield Fountain Gate continues this legacy of innovation and represents the next evolution in premium cinema entertainment.

The new auditorium features IMAX with Laser technology, delivering what the company describes as one of the most immersive cinematic experiences available. This next-generation projection system has been purpose-built for epic storytelling and large-scale visual entertainment.
Technical specifications for the IMAX theatre include:
- 4K laser projection with industry-leading image clarity
- Custom optical engine and lenses for enhanced brightness
- Precision-tuned audio system for wall-to-wall sound immersion
- Enhanced contrast ratios and wider colour spectrum exclusive to IMAX screens
The cinema opening coincides with several major film releases scheduled for summer. The launch line-up includes Wicked: For Good, the sequel to the popular musical adaptation, alongside Avatar: Fire and Ash, James Cameron’s return to Pandora. Christopher Nolan’s epic The Odyssey will also screen at the venue, showcasing the director’s signature visual storytelling on the large-format screen.
