Coinciding with Asia TOPA, the Wheeler Centre Gala and resulting launch of the program will welcome a host of talented writers to respond to a provocative theme – Stories for the Dead.
The likes of Clementine Ford, Eko Supriyanto, Candy Bowers, Pichet Klunchun and Deborah Cheetham will come together for the season opening on February 26.
A raucous, unflinching and hilarious feminist voice, Lindy West is best known for her writing in female-focused blog Jezebel and The Guardian. She’ll come together with columnist Anne Summers for Q&A Lindy West on Fat, Feminism and Fighting Trolls the following night.
Another highlight of the program includes a discussion with eminent British philosopher A.C. Grayling whose interests in contemporary atheism and other pressing current affairs have produced over 30 books.
Tom Ballard’s not your average comedian – on March 27, he’ll metamorphose his mind into the creative unrestraint of a six-year-old. Carmel Johnston was a crew commander of NASA’s most recent Hawaii Space Exploration Analog and Simulation project – Life on Mars: Carmel Johnston is set to be just as captivating as it sounds.
There’ll be explorations into the significance of the AFL’s new National Women’s League on top of discussions about The Messenger – the Wheeler Centre’s new podcast series divulging conversations within the Manus Island Detention Centre as recorded by detained refugee Abdul Aziz Muhamat.
