Hailing from Townsville, North Queensland, Jason Schwab and Michael Wearne have been striving to get out of their hometown and with this, their first full-length production, It’s All About The Destination, Not The Journey, is their escape plan:the show traces their journey from Townsville to this year’s MICF.

Along they way they come to face to face with a giant possum, a killer duck, but more importantly, they must overcome the biggest hurdle of all; the burning resentment between our two protagonists. “When Wearnie and I first met in high school, we absolutely detested each other. We really just did not get off on the right foot. Luckily, we managed to develop that hate/hate relationship into a hate/hate relationship with a little bit of friendship in there as well.”

Since their school days, Jason and Michael have always played the class jokers. “We would always spend our class time in drama laughing at each other, which would also make our classmates laugh. We instantly forged a type of ‘odd couple’ type of image, where I played the straight man to his off-beat, intellectually challenged character. That’s really been the key to how we operate to this day. We love making each other laugh. When we’re having fun, it’s really infectious and spreads throughout our audience.”

A quick scour of the internet generally leads back to their Facebook page, where Jason and Michael both actively correspond with their followers. “Social networking is the poor man’s publicity tool. End of discussion,” explains Schwab.

The show has been two years in the making, and even involved a trip to last year’s MICF to “research”. “Melbourne has always felt like the place to go in Australia for us. It has a great scene and supports local acts, and allows them to flourish. We took the decision to immerse ourselves in the festival, and see what was required to get our show on the road”

Twelve months have passed and $18,000 has been spent putting the show together. So what can we expect from their first show? “New audience members to our show should expect to expect nothing they’ve seen before. Our style of comedy incorporates a lot of alternative stuff that is yet to be properly exploited on the Australian live comedy circuit so far. They can expect to be plunged into a cinematic theatrical experience incorporating groundbreaking multimedia in the form of pre-recorded footage, which all perfectly compliment our onstage antics. We guarantee we’ll leave a vivid, visual impression on their brains.”
