After nine years of waiting, a new Closure In Moscow album officially lives

Closure In Moscow seem to be aiming for the Australian version of Tool, or GNR, or any other band that takes a significantly long time to drop a new record. With a nine-year gap between albums two and three, fans have been waiting a while, but we are happy to say that the new album, Soft Hell, has officially been launched.

Keep up with the latest music news, features, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

Two local solo electronic acts opened the evening, starting with Niine, an eclectic artist who pushed powerful vocals over drumless deep bass synths. Add in a PJ Harvey cover and a guitar-only banger, and the scene was set for the second support, Closure In Moscow collaborator Aphir. An artist who appears on two Soft Hell tracks, Aphir co-wrote and produced the new album and offered a set of stunning minimal electronica with gentle vocals.

The mood shifted when Closure took the stage with the first track from the new album Jaeger Bomb. A band that definitely gets funkier in their live show every year, it was clear the five-piece were happy to be in front of the sold-out crowd with new tunes. The set went round and round with new and old with A Night at the Spleen, Primal Sinister and Kissing Cousins, but his a power crescendo with the now-classic, Sweet#hart.

While the band has dabbled with live performances over their nine-year album break, the downtime seems to have made them tighter, groovier and heavier all in one. Special mention goes to guitarist Mansur Zennelli, who impressed everyone with some tricky vocal parts over even trickier guitar riffs. Closure In Moscow are currently at their best, and the new album is even better live, so be sure to catch their next offering.
