Woah!
Eighteen months ago, the owners of Cherry Bar took over the former Reverence Hotel in Footscray after it closed its doors in March 2019 following uncertainty around its lease. The Rev had been operating on a month-by-month lease, making it difficult to plan for the long-term, and the owners ended up calling it quits.
Since then, the rumour mill has slowly intensified around what the new ownership would look like. Soon enough, it was announced that The Rev would become The Hotel Westwood – a venue that had been billed to open a lot earlier had it not been for COVID-19.
Now, The Hotel Westwood has officially been unveiled via a post on Cherry Bar’s Facebook page. Set to open on Saturday November 28, the venue will operate from Friday to Sunday for starters as they aim to slowly build up to a seven-day operation.
“1.5 years ago the Cherry Bar owners took over the former Reverence Hotel in Footscray,” Cherry Bar said via their Facebook page. “After an extensive renovation and a Covid nut-punch, we are finally ready to open to the public this Saturday 28 November from 12noon as The Westwood Hotel.
“In the near future we will host live bands in our Dining Room, in our Band Room and in our amazing Beer Garden (converted car park area) seven days a week! But for now, we’re just thrilled to be opening with tacos and cocktails outside.”
There’s not much information on how The Hotel Westwood will look aesthetically, so you’ll have to head down to 28 Napier Street to check it out for yourself.
