The Prince Of Wales Sold

There’s been a plethora of rumours floating around ever since Christie Eliezer stated that one of Melbourne’s venues was soon to close in his Industrial Strength column within Beat.

But yesterday the Melbourne Pub Group, who also own Albert Park Hotel and Middle Park Hotel, confirmed that they have purchased the Prince.

Cassie Walker, music co-ordinator for the Prince Bandroom, confirmed to Beat that all associated businesses – bandroom, pub, etc. – everything except the carpark has been sold. Although she believes that the bandroom will continue to host live music for at least the next 12 months.

One of Australia’s most treasured live music venues, the Prince has hosted illustrious acts such as Modest Mouse, James Blake, OFWGKTA and more this year alone.

Update: The Prince have released an official statement:

“Following the recent sale of the Prince group we assure you that the Prince Bandroom will still be delivering live music.

With a full calendar for the next few months and a heap of shows ready to be announced for the New Year we will still be bringing you the most exciting national and international bands as we have for all these years.

We want to thank everyone for their concern and support and are overwhelmed with the reaction from locals and the music industry.”
