The Preston Market’s beloved Italian Day takeover is back

Italian Day
words by staff writer

Pop-ups, performances and Euro-disco beats bumping out of a vintage Vespa... Need I say more?

Who needs a Euro summer when the Preston Market is giving us all of the pasta, pesto and parmigiana we could possibly need?

The annual event celebrates everything that makes Italy special. It is locked in to return in a few short weeks, running for one day only on Sunday, August 27.

Italian Day at Preston Market

  • The yearly celebration is set to return on Sunday, August 27
  • Running from 10am to 3pm, the market will feature live entertainment, food pop-ups and activities centring around Italian culture

The entertainment will be starting early with a live cooking demonstration hosted by Masterchef alumn Amir Manoly. After that, performers will take the stage throughout the rest of the day.

Music will be provided by Lorenzo + Co and The Veneto Club Choir of Melbourne. In the afternoon, the Melbourne School of Tarantella will show off the traditional dance of Southern Italy, before Moto Bella – a custom 1968 Vespa Super with a specially-built DJ booth and sidecar – will be bumping beats until the end of the day.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a true Italian celebration without a focus on food. There will be a ton of pop-up stalls on the day, including St Gerrys, Twista Bros, Pour Some Suga, Gindu, Panino Mio, Super Raw, Rustic Bean, Abruzzo Lab and il Panzerotti. Visitors can also try free samples that’ll be on offer during the event.

For the little ones, there will be face painting and balloon twisting early in the day, followed by super fun trackless train rides upon Larry the Locomotive in the afternoon.
