Something For Kate will launch the Portsea Summer Series, bringing live music to the seaside all summer long.
Something For Kate is a rare gift – an indie rock band that has been honing their skills since the ’90s but has a discography that still resonates deeply with fans of all ages.
On Sunday, December 17, the three-piece will be heading to the Portsea Hotel for a laidback late afternoon set by the seaside as part of the Portsea Summer Series.

After forming in 1994 and taking inspiration for their name from singer and guitarist Paul Dempsey’s family dog, the band quickly built a dedicated local following. They dropped their debut record, Elsewhere for 8 Minutes, in 1997.

Now, nearly three decades later, the band has solidified their status as a modern rock mainstay.
After completing multiple global tours, opening for giants like Death Cab For Cutie and David Bowie and releasing seven studio albums – six of which are gold or platinum-certified – the band will be bringing their rich discography to the Portsea Hotel.
Kicking off early, the show will be opened by the ever-talented singer-songwriter Hayley Mary (formerly of The Jezabels) who will be bringing her angelic voice and pop-rock tracks. Presented by CBCo Brewing and Tanqueray, the event offers punters an easygoing evening of tunes.
The Portsea Hotel’s Something For Kate gig will be the launch for the venue’s huge Portsea Summer Series, bringing talent and good times to the town all summer long.
Featuring a Yo! Mafia DJ party set on Christmas Eve Eve, a massive New Year’s Eve bash with DJ Emma Peters, Karla Adele Duo and DJ Nayzi, and much more, the series is Portsea’s most exciting party.
