The two-day event will make its return in March.

In 2020, we said farewell to Party In The Paddock with one final hurrah in Tasmania’s White Hills, but the organisers behind the beloved festival haven’t left us high and dry. Vibestown Productions have now announced their next live music venture, reviving one of Tasmania’s most iconic music festivals, The Basin Concert.

What you need to know

  • The Basin Concert is happening on Friday March 26 and Saturday March 27
  • The lineup will be revealed on Thursday February 4
  • The festival is being revived by Vibestown Productions, the event organisers behind Party In The Paddock

Once Australia’s longest-running outdoor concert, The Basin Concert ran for over 30 consecutive years at Cataract Gorge First Basin before coming to an end in 1999, drawing crowds of up to 10,000 in its heyday.

The festival briefly made a comeback in 2015 and 2016, though Tasmanian festival-goers were forced to say goodbye to the festival once again after the short-lived revival.

Now, Vibestown Productions are taking a run at it, with an aim to bring back The Basin Concert while channelling the soul of the festival which kept punters returning year after year.

It comes at the perfect time, filling the void of Party In The Paddock and last year’s cancelled Falls Festival. Making its return in March, the COVID-safe event will feature an all-Australian lineup catering to a wide range of music tastes, to be revealed on Thursday February 4.

“After wrapping up Party in the Paddock in 2020, we now have the time and space essential to consider other options of launching other larger-scale events,” said Vibestown Productions Director, Jesse Higgs.

“We have made the decision to step up to the plate for Tassie in what has been a challenging time for most industries. We are excited to revive one of the state’s most nostalgic and highly-valued events.”

The organisers are confident The Basin Concert will become a permanent fixture of Australia’s music festival scene, celebrating music as well as great local food and wine amongst Cataract Gorge’s stunning natural amphitheatre.

The Basin Concert is happening on Friday March 26 – Saturday March 27 at The Basin, Launceston. Tickets go on sale on Thursday February 4.
