The short course kicks off on Thursday January 21.
Melbourne’s The Music Gym has launched a new short course aimed at helping aspiring Melbourne songwriters harness their creativity and mould their musical ideas into original songs.
Kicking off on January 21, The Music Gym’s new Songwriting Course will run on Thursday evenings from 6:05pm-7:20pm until February 25. Operating as a group class, the weekly sessions will offer a fun and creative environment to help you shake off any nerves or self-doubt around writing and performing your own music.
The course syllabus covers a broad range of relevant concepts, including common song formats and sections, how to determine the key of a song, how to craft a melody, major and modal harmonisation in pop, rock, blues and jazz, and more.
Through a combination of creative exercises and theory-based learnings, the course aims to equip students with a basic knowledge of music theory functional to songwriting and common songwriting techniques while empowering class members to create their own chord progressions in different keys, forge their own melodies and, ultimately, write and complete an original song from scratch.
Based in Melbourne’s CBD, The Music Gym is like a playground for musicians of all levels, offering private music lessons in guitar, piano and voice with top-notch instruments provided.
So, whether you’re just looking to get creative and try something new this year or you want to take your skills as a lyricist to the next level, The Music Gym’s Songwriting Course has you covered.
