Fresh from announcing their upcoming performance of The Empire Strikes Back, The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra has now turned its talents to the celebrated works of Studio Ghibli.

The MSO will be performing the ephemeral scores by composer Joe Hisaishi, with Hisaishi himself conducting the orchestra as footage plays on a cinema screen overhead.

Expect montages and scenes from Ghibli favourites including Howl’s Moving CastleMy Neighbour TotoroPrincess Mononoke, the seminal Spirited Away and more.

The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is the first orchestra in the world that has been selected to perform Ghibli in concert, outside of Japan.
