The exhibition - now extended to Sunday 21 April after phenomenal demand - will showcase more than 200 items collected from the titanic wreckage.

For more than a century, people have been captivated by the tragic tale of the Titanic. Now, Melbournians are getting the chance to learn more about the history of the iconic ship (without having to step foot into a poorly constructed submarine).

Until April 21, the Melbourne Museum will be home to TITANIC: The Artifact Exhibition. Freshly following a sold-out run in Paris, the exhibition, which features more than 200 original artifacts from the Titanic, will be coming to Melbourne for an Australia-exclusive run.

“The tragedy of the Titanic is known around the world, but there are so many personal stories and historic details to uncover through this illuminating exhibition proudly brought to Melbourne Museum with support from the government,” says Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos.

Visitors will receive their own Titanic boarding pass before learning about the personal stories of the guests aboard the ill-fated maiden voyage. To create a fully immersive experience, the exhibition will feature meticulously reconstructed renditions of the vessel’s interior features including the Grand Staircase, First Class Parlor Suite and Verandah Cafe.

A new addition in 2023, the exhibition now features a touchable piece of the ship’s hull as well as newly collected items that have been salvaged from the sea floor by RMS Titanic – the only company legally allowed to collect objects from the wreckage.

The exhibition will also reflect on the human fascination with the story of the Titanic since its sinking in 1929, featuring pop culture content including films, songs, books and art pieces.

“Tragedy, heroism, sacrifice, survival and loss – these are themes the Titanic evokes which continue to resonate today, with people of all ages across the globe,” says Museums Victoria CEO and Director Lynley Crosswell. “We are thrilled to welcome this global blockbuster to Melbourne Museum.”
