Who said nothing good ever happens after 2am?

The Tote has just announced the return of free late-night live music shows to to Melbourne’s local music scene. The Tote will commence free 1:30am shows every Friday night for the rest of this year from Friday, September 30.

With killer Melbourne acts such as Heavy Amber, The Coffins, Whip Werm and Space Junk on the bill for the first set of shows, it’s the best place to kick on and check out the best of Melbourne’s sick music scene.

The first string of shows are …

  • September 30 – Heavy Amber
  • October 7 – The Coffins
  • October 14 – Great Australian Bank
  • October 21 – Whip Werm
  • October 28 – Space Junk
  • November 4 – Persecution Blues

“It’s great to restart the Late Show gig in the grand tradition of the famous Pony Late Shows, and if you go back far enough, The Club’s 2am live music shows,” says co-owner of The Tote, Jon Perring.

“I remember seeing the Rats of Tobruk Pipe Band come up the Club’s stairs followed by TISM, who then played an awesome historic show. You would just turn up after everywhere else has closed and get surprised by who was playing. The anticipation around this time slot is always exciting for both the band and the audience.”

An irreplaceable bastion of Melbourne’s thriving music scene, The Tote is celebrating its 40th birthday (they turned 40 in 2021, but lockdown birthdays don’t count so they’re celebrating big time this year). With huge celebrations across multiple Collingwood venues – including a show at the famous Abbotsford Convent that featured Kylie Aulidist – as well as heaps of exciting announcements, 2022 is The Year of The Tote.
