The Fitzroy Pinnacle will pull its final pints on 31 January, ending an era for the iconic Fitzroy North venue.
The distinctive wedge-shaped building on St Georges Rd has been a cornerstone of Melbourne’s inner-north pub scene since the mid-1990s, hosting countless gigs, trivia nights, first dates and even weddings over the years.
The venue announced via Instagram that all good things must come to an end, inviting anyone who has ever walked through its doors to come by for a final visit before the lights go out.

Built in the 1880s, the Pinnacle’s striking architecture features a prominent tower, lion statues and ornate columns that make it one of Fitzroy North’s most recognisable landmarks. The building spent its early years as a land lease office before becoming a post office, then an antique shop. Its transformation into a pub brought new life to the heritage structure, establishing it as a vital part of Melbourne’s live music ecosystem with regular gigs spanning jazz, blues, country and punk across multiple stages including its beloved beer garden.
The venue has weathered its share of challenges, including a fire in November 2015 that tore through the kitchen and kept it out of action for nearly two years. In 2018, the pub launched a Festival of The Pinnacle as a community call to arms when its future looked uncertain. Throughout it all, the Pinny remained a gathering place for locals who came for the craft beer taps, the popular trivia nights and what some claim is one of Melbourne’s top five parmas.
The pub’s Instagram post captured the breadth of memories made within its walls, mentioning those who played their first or last shows there, attended the annual PINNYFEST, worked behind the bar or simply gazed at the building wondering what was inside. Live music runs through the final weekend, with food specials continuing as usual.
