Nightclub owners put their support behind The Sex Party over Labor.
The Nightclub Owners Forum are not happy with the Brumby Government’s stance on nightclubs, and are urging voters to put their support behind The Sex Party instead, due to policy that ensures great nightlife, job security and better costs for everyone.
The Government’s planned amendments to the Liquor Act, according to the Nightclub Owners Forum, will give the Director Of Liquor Licence "unprecendented powers to introduce lockouts in the future and frustrate the legal rights of licensees to challenge the Director’s decision."
The recent 2am lockout disaster is a good case in point. Luckily, it was canned, but with the new amendments, appealing lockout decisions will be almost impossible and thus potential drastically harmful to the industry.
The Nightclub Owners Forum support a cosmopolitan 24-hour city and see lockouts as a "cop out for poor planning" – a kind of bandaid solution and a cost-cutting solution that will radically change thigns for venue owners and licencees.
With the election approaching, the Forum are urging voters to support a party with a more forward-thinking and realistic approach to nightclubs and Melbourne’s nightlife – an important part of our beautiful city. They believe that the costs of the Brumby Govenment’s dealing with the issue of nightclubs include thousands of jobs being put at risk, Melbourne’s world calss reputation as a thriving tourist destination being put at risk, consumer cost increase and public safety being put at risk due to a lack of adequate police and trains – issues that are being solved with lockouts instead.
The Sex Party, on the other hand, are interested in increasing transport, lengthening opening hours, working on more realistic licensing fees and approaching nightclub problems with an attitude of support rather than trying to minimise the whole community by shutting it down as much as possible.
