An LGBTIQ+ social event to connect with others.
The Coming Back Out Social is a special afternoon gathering at State Library Victoria as part of the 40th anniversary of the Victorian Seniors Festival.
Welcoming LGBTIQ+ older communities and allies of all ages, The Coming Back Out Social will feature The Skunkworks Orchestra conducted by Phillipa Edwards and The Discordants roving throughout the event in magical costumes.
Created by acclaimed performance makers All The Queens Men, The Coming Back Out Social is a safe space that celebrates the resilience of older LGBTIQ+ people.
The Coming Back Out Social is inspired by the acclaimed The Coming Back Out Ball and LGBTIQ+ Elders Dance Clubs, which have been programmed across Australia and internationally for the past eight years.
All The Queens Men are guided by a social mission to create inclusive spaces where people from all walks of life can come together to release, celebrate and heal.
All The Queens Men co-artistic director, Tristan Meecham says, “The Coming Back Out Social is designed as a gift that celebrates a variety lived experiences. It will be a joyous experience, where we create a fun event for people to eat, drink, dance and connect with others.”
“These events are informed by the growing data around isolation and loneliness plaguing elderly populations. This has always been more acute for LGBTIQ+ people and has been exacerbated by the pandemic” said Meecham.
