From deep within the heart of Montreal, comes a new and refreshing sound, brought to Australia by Civil Society. The Besnard Lakes have just kicked off an Australian tour to promote their third album, The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night.

This alternative four piece band are made up of husband and wife duo Jace Lasek and Olga Goreas and echoes a rich musical history, similar to that of Pink Floyd meets the Beach Boys. While The Besnard Lakes boast an original sound, there is something of a homage paid to the rock’n’roll greats by this Quebecois group.

It is nearly impossible not to draw similarities to the ghosts of bands past, but the spirits are friendly. The boy/girl duets have a fun feel to them while the background melodies are haunting and almost celestial in their nostalgic cry. Their sound lands somewhere between Halloween and Valentines Day.

The tour will touch down in Australia in March 2011, dabbling in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne before appearing at the Golden Plains Festival.
